EXPERIENCE
I was promoted to Warehouse Co-ordinator in 1987 to head the receiving division of local and imported parts and accessories. In total sixty-six people reported to me.
I left M-NET at the end of 1990 to join SAB Systems T&D.
I have a wide knowledge and contacts in the computer industry and know PC hardware from 8086 Pentium technology, and all that goes with it, e.g.: types of hard drives, screen technologies, multimedia etc.
I joined SAB as Systems Training Analyst. As Training Analyst, I was responsible for successful training on all systems projects assigned to me and my team. We worked closely with various business units and other sections within the Systems Division. We used Project Scheduler 5 to manage our projects, which was substituted later with Microsoft Project. During 1991 I developed the first prototype multimedia training course for SAB, incorporating interactive sound and video and downloading same to and from VHS video. In doing this, I gained experience with the different software and hardware and various standards.
My position as IT Research & Development Specialist required in-depth knowledge of current computer Technology and trends, and I had to advise Senior Management (Directors, General Managers and other Executives) on what technology (hardware and software) to standardise on, what the business impact for Beer Division will be and what the projected savings / benefits for the Group will be. I was also the only person in the Group assigned with this task.
Major tasks were research on cellular technology, multimedia notebooks and multimedia projectors, virtual office, video conferencing, development in software and hardware industry and initiating the Year 2000 project. I am therefore familiar with the ISO 8601 specification.
I designed and implemented aspects of the systems used at SAB Centenary Centre (Museum).
I also designed and piloted an interactive multimedia kiosk system for SAB.
I have further been a Beta tester for Microsoft, Symantec, ABSA, IBM and MTN.
In my position as IS Project Manager, I headed up the IT Research & Development Section and was also responsible for managing the various IS Projects. At some stage there were about 75 but this has been scaled down to 5 to reduce the IS complexities. Project budgets range from R 230 000 to R 1.5 million.
I have also featured in many publications (Nissan, M-NET and SAB) as well as Finance Week - Oct 26, 1995) and The Farmer (May 1998).
I was appointed as Systems Development Manager at Destiny Electronic Commerce and fulfilled the role of Technical & Operations Manager, reporting to the Managing Director and Operations Director, respectively.
Key achievements were the creation and implementation of an electronic internet mall (for ABSA bank) to enable SET and SSL transactions directly on the ABSA payment gateway. I am therefore familiar with applications such as IBM Net Commerce, Microsoft Site Server and Commerce Server and BroadVision. I am familiar with the ISO 8583 specification in this regard and have a thorough knowledge of Internet related aspects.
I have been tasked to design the Electronic Commerce Hub with related infrastructure and securities.
A major project was the design and set-up of the Agri-info Channel for the South African Agricultural Union. Tasks included the design of the business and business plan, marketing segmentation and strategies, costing, promotions and advertising etc.
I did consulting for a wide range of businesses in the agricultural sector regarding Internet technologies, electronic commerce and Web strategies etc. Clients includes Senwes, MGK, Sensako, ARC, SOK, NWTV, SAGIS, OPLU etc. In this regard I am also a member of the AHI committee on Information Technology Strategies.
