I wasn't quite sure where to put this topic. It could easily fit under "Paranormal" or "Occult". But then, it could also be UFO-related.

So, here it is. Under Weird and Strange!

Time is quite an interesting concept. Several questions can be asked: What is time and, does it exist? There are many suggestions that time actually does not exist! Let me explain...

Firstly, it is my belief that time is an invention by man. The purpose of time is to measure an occurrence (or occurrences) at a given point(s). For example: the earth rotates around it's axis at roughly the same speed every day. (A day is also a man-made measurement of time!) So, what we're asking is: how long does it take for the sun to be exactly at the same place (angle/degree), next "time" around? In order to do this, hours, minutes and seconds were invented. Having got this, we can now measure "time" e.g. I got into my car at "X" occurrence and arrived at my destination at "Y" occurrence. When I set off, the sun was at point "A" (time) and at arrival it was at point "B". - Equate that to hours minutes and seconds.

OK! But we went further. A day is a relatively short occurrence. So, we wanted to measure the speed of light (again measured from one occurrence to the next). For example: the star Alpha Centauri is about 4 light years from earth. This means the "time" it takes for light to reach the earth. A year is the measure of how long (in days) it takes for the earth to orbit the sun from point "A", and back to point "A" again. This is roughly 365 days (as we all know!). So now, 4 light years have some meaning to us.

"Well, where is all this leading to?" you may ask. Read on!!

My suggestion is that we (in our current society) need the concept of time, and as is currently in use. Civilisations (actually everything) is organised around our implementation of the concept of time. The world would be in disarray if we abandon it. (Isn't it the concept of time that gave us the Y2K - Year 2000 - problem?!)

Time is a measurement from one occurrence to the next. That's all it is. The same as a mile and/or kilometre is a measurement for distance from one point to another (and they don't even measure the same!!).

Once we can agree that time (I guess as a dimension) does not exist, then it becomes easier to explain a whole lot of other things:

...Such as why clocks (when set exactly the same) between earth and astronauts, reflect differently when they return to earth after some stay in space.
...Such as why Einstein's theory is true.
...Such as why some "gifted" people can "see" in the past and future.
...Such as why astral projection is possible.
...Such as why UFO's seem to be doing "time travel".
...Such as why there could be something like "eternal life" etc...

So. It is my belief that there is a dimension with some qualities of what we call "time". The physical dimension that we live in, for example, says what goes up must come down. - We're ruled by gravity, you see!!

The dimension "time" (not the measurement "time") has different rules. Rules we don't yet understand or even know about. If we did, we would be able to do time travel, which means we would be able to travel faster than light! Let me explain.
Actually, we can't go faster than light. What I've said above is like comparing apples with pears (different rules apply for each). But, (at least in theory), if I do time travel (say into the future), then I'd be arriving at the destination before the "light" (visuals) arrives, meaning I've travelled faster than light. Which also means that I'd be invisible, because my light image hasn't arrived yet! The same is true if I travel BACK in time. I'd be arriving BEFORE the "light" (visuals) were sent, also meaning I'd be invisible!!

The next question is then: by using the "time" dimension, would I be able to change what has happened or what is going to happen?

The answer is NO! If we're able to go back in "time", we'll be visiting occurrences that (to us) have already happened. So, to our dimension, we can't change that. Take this scenario: If you go back in time say, to your great-grandparent's time and you (heaven forbid) kill them, then you can't be here and now either! The same applies to the future. The future is actually also the past! Let me explain. To us, visiting the year 2100, is visiting the future. But if we're visiting the year 2300, then 2100 would be that era's past!! And so on....

This is why there are some great lessons (non-religious) to be learnt from books such as the Bible, which states (more or less): ...what is, has been and what was, is still to come...There's nothing new under the sun....!!

What do you think. Does time exist? If so, how?
